Sentence frames or sentence starters are simply cloze sentences. It is a way for students to write and speak in complete sentences. Sentence frames do not take long to make and you can even have basic frames posted all the time. Below I have posted a picture of some basic frames that are in the front of my classroom. One way to help the students is to turn your essential question into a sentence frame. Think about what you are wanting the students to say to you. As teachers many times we accept phrases and one word answers, but we are not properly preparing them for college and career. This is a way to help them practice. It also allows for those that need the extra help or English Language Learners to process the information. Turning your objectives into sentence frames are also a great way to see if the students are meeting your objectives.
